This is Buddy and welcome to a fun and exciting game of Knock Gin Rummy takes lots Skill, Knowledge and a Good Memory to vigorously overcome all Oppositions and take their Money Home.
Well now there then, Gin Rummy is a Game of Great Skill, Knowledge and a good Memory to Win Consistently. Usually a Two Player Game with each player playing Head to Head with the other or can be played as two teams, with the team players facing each other and Playing the Opponent to his Left or Right and then swapping Opponents for the next hand. The first thing you do in Gin Rummy is spread the cards out on the table and let each player for each side pick a card to see who deals first to the Opponent. The Highest Card usually deals, The dealer has the advantage, because he deals the Opponent Eleven Cards and himself Ten Cards, which leaves the Opponent having to discard First one Card, turn a card over and abd say Gin with ten or less Points or say Gin Rummy, if you can believe that, I have seen this happen often Gin on the Deal from each side.
One standard pack of fifty two cards is used. Cards in each suit are ranked from low to high - A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, or K. The value of the cards is fairly standard King, Queen and Jack = 10 Points, the Ace has a One Point Value or Twenty. All other cards receive their number value, Six = 6 Points.
The Winner of Hand is the Dealer for the Next Hand 1st dealer is chosen randomly, and the deal then alternates between the players. Each player receives 10 cards, one at a time. The 21st card is turned face up to begin the discard pile and the rest of the deck is placed face down beside it and becomes the stock
The object of the game is to arrange as many as possible of the 10 cards in your hand into sets. There are 2 kinds of sets, groups and sequences.
A group is 3 or 4 cards of the same rank, such as 6, 6, 6.
A sequence is made up of 3 or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order, such as 3, 4, 5 or 7, 8, 9, 10. A card can belong to only one set at a
GAME PLAY
The Draw -- A player must begin by taking one card from either the top card on the discard pile or the top card on the stock pile and adding it to his hand. The discard pile is always face up. The stock is face down, so if you choose to take a card from the stock you do not know what that card is. If you draw from the stock, you add the card to your hand without showing it to the other players. Your turn is completed when you discard one card from your hand and place it on top of the discard pile face up.
For the 1st turn of the hand, the draw is done in a special way. First, the person who did not deal decides whether to take the turned up card. If the player does not take the card then the dealer may take the card.
If both players refuse the turned-up card, the non-dealer takes a card from the stock pile. Whichever player took a card finishes their turn by discarding and then it is the other player's turn to play.
The game finishes when a player knocks. This can be done on any turn (including the 1st), straight after drawing, provided that you can form sufficient of your cards into sets..
After you have knocked, you complete your turn by discarding one card as usual and then placing your remaining cards face up on the table, arranged into sets and unmatched cards. In order to be allowed to knock, the total value of your unmatched cards must be 10 points or less. Knocking with no unmatched cards at all is called going gin, and earns a special bonus.
If you have Ten or under Points you can never be forced to Declair, but play on for Rummy for a higher score. A player who is able, may choose instead to carry on playing in an attempt to improve their score, or stall to see what his Partner is going to do.
The Opponent of the player who Declared he was under Ten Points must then place their cards face-up, arranging them into sets where possible and begin to count the points that are left, less how many Points the declaier had.
Provided that the Opponent did not say Gin, the Opponent is also allowed to lay off any unmatched cards by using them to extend the sets laid down by the knocker - by adding a 4th card of the same rank to a group of 3, or further consecutive cards of the same suit to either end of a sequence.
If a player says gin, the Opponent cannot lay off any cards. You should note that the Opponent cannot lay off cards on the opponent's sets.
The game also ends if the stock pile is reduced to Two Cards, and the player who took the 3rd last card discards without knocking. In this case, the hand is cancelled, no points are scored and the same dealer deals again.
SCORING
Each player counts the total value of their unmatched cards. If the knocker's count is lower, the knocker scores the difference between the 2 counts.
If the Opponent did not say Gin and the counts are equal, or the Opponent count is the greater then the Declarer has been undercut. In this case the knocker's opponent scores the difference between the counts plus a Twenty Point Bonus.
A player who Says Gin receives a bonus of twenty points, plus the Opponent's Count in unmatched cards, if any. A player who goes gin can never be undercut. Even if the other player has no unmatched cards at all, the Declarer gets the twenty point bonus and the other player does not score.
The game then continues with further deals until one of the players has a cumulative score of one hundred points or more. This player then receives an added bonus of one hundred points. If the loser failed to score anything at all during the game, then the winner's bonus is two hundred points instead of one hundred.
Each player adds a further twenty points for each hand they won. This is called the box bonus or line bonus. These extra points are not counted as part of the one hundred needed to win the game.
In standard Gin, a player may not knock unless he has 10 or fewer points of deadwood. He must knock if he has 0 points of deadwood. Knocking with 0 points of deadwood is known as going Gin or having a Gin hand, while knocking with deadwood points is known as going down.
To knock, the knocking player ends his turn by discarding as usual, announces that he is knocking (generally by simply placing his discard face down), and lays his hand out with the melds clearly indicated and deadwood separated. The other ("defending") player is then entitled to lay off any of his deadwood cards that fit into the knocking player's melds.
For example, the knocking player has a meld of three Kings. The defending player has a King as part of his deadwood. He can lay off that King, reducing his deadwood count by ten.
If the knocking player has gone gin, however, the defending player is not allowed to lay off.
The number of points awarded for bonuses may vary from region to region. No matter what the bonus amounts are, points are scored in Gin for the following:
Knock Points - after a player knocks, and the lay offs are made, the knocking player receives a score equal to the difference between the two hands. For example, if a player knocks with 8, and the defender has 10 deadwood points in his or her hand after laying off, the knocking player receives 2 points for the hand.
Gin Bonus - after going Gin, a player receives a bonus of 25 points plus the entire count of deadwood in their opponent's hand. There is no chance to lay off when a player goes Gin.
UnderCut - (sometimes called underknocking) occurs when the defending player has a deadwood count lower than or equal to that of the knocking player (this can occur either naturally or by laying off after a knock). In this case, the defender scores an undercut bonus of 25 points plus the difference between the two hands. (In some rule sets, the bonus is only 10 or 20 points, or is not awarded in case of a tie.)
Game Bonus - once a player has acquired 100 points (or some other agreed upon number) the match is over, and that player receives a Game Bonus of 100 points.
Line Bonus - (also known as a box bonus) is added at the end of the match. For every hand a player won during the match, 25 points is added to their score.
Big Gin - prior to knocking, if all 11 cards in a player's hand form a Legal Gin, the player can retain the extra card as part of their hand, and is awarded an extra 6 points per the "Big Gin" bonus.
Shutout Bonus - if a match is completed with the winner having won every hand, the points for each hand are doubled before adding the Line Bonus.
